Located in Yorkville in New York City, The Arden is less than a 14 minute drive from Weill Cornell Medical College. It is also close to Marymount Manhattan College and Hunter College. The Arden is a walker’s paradise with world-class transportation options including the 86 Street (4,5,6 Line) within walking distance and John F Kennedy International Airport a short car ride away.
the arden is surrounded by woodlands that abound with wildflowers and wildlife. It is a peaceful retreat where citizens work together to maintain their natural beauty by participating in annual woods cleanup, ivy “pulls” and other events. It is also the home of the Arts and Crafts movement which valued hand-crafted goods, art and individualistic design. The Arden Craft Shop Museum at 1807 Millers Road is open to the public 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Its natural setting inspired Shakespeare’s vision of the forest that fits the English nostalgic autostereotype of Merry England and was later portrayed by Pre-Raphaelite artist John Collier.
The Village of Arden has its own unique style of government and a set of ordinances that are in place to safeguard its residents’ property rights and the historic character of the village. Its governing body is the Town Assembly. It meets twice a month and members are expected to be familiar with the Assembly’s governing documents and ordinances.
The Town Assembly also maintains a special Task Force to review the village’s governing documents and ordinances in light of current legal and constitutional issues.
