Types of RV Refrigerators

One of the most important RV luxuries is having easy access to ice-cold drinks and fresh, refrigerated foods. Many RVs have residential refrigerators just like those found in homes, but others are built with fridges designed specifically for use on RV trips and camping excursions.

Traditional RV LP/Electric Refrigerators
The most common type of RV fridge is a traditional LP/electric model. These are great for RV travelers because they allow you to plug in and use electricity if you’re at an electric campground, but also offer the option of switching to propane mode if you decide to boondock or camp without hook-ups. This versatility is a huge plus for full-time RVers.

These refrigerators can be more power-hungry than other types of RV fridges and need to be defrosted regularly. Another drawback is that they don’t cool as well in hot, humid or high-altitude weather.

If you’re planning to spend a lot of time in the heat, consider putting a fan in your RV refrigerator to help it cool faster. This will reduce the amount of energy it takes to reach an optimal temperature and can make a significant difference.

Always remember to leave the doors open on your RV fridge when you’re not using it. Otherwise the fridge will start to smell and need to be cleaned more often. For this reason, it’s best to keep a dish towel near the fridge so you don’t forget to close it! rv refrigeration
