One of the coolest things about Apple’s iPhone is its flashlight utility. It’s helpful if you need a quick light in a dark place, and can be turned on or off with just a tap.
But some users aren’t pleased with the way the flashlight turns on and off. So they’re asking Apple to fix it.
1. Control Center
If you are using an iPhone 11, you can turn on the flashlight on the device by accessing the Control Center. This is a menu that contains a range of useful tools and settings for the iPhone. The Control Center is accessible from the Lock screen, as well as from the Home button.
To access the Control Center on an iPhone 11, swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open it. This is different from the way that it was accessed on previous models of the iPhone.
The Control Center has a number of different controls, including the Flashlight and Camera shortcuts. To change which apps can be accessed by the shortcuts, go to Settings > Control Center and toggle Access Within Apps on or off.
One of the more interesting additions to the Control Center is the new Notes button, which serves as a quick shortcut to the Notes app. It also includes a number of extra features, like the ability to add checklists and photos, as well as launching Low Power Mode and the Magnifier.
2. Lock Screen
The iPhone 11 comes with a built-in flashlight, which is a useful feature for times when you need to be able to see in the dark. This can include situations such as a power outage, a movie theater, or just when it’s dark outside and you need to use your phone.
You can turn on your iPhone’s flashlight by tapping on the Lock Screen, Control Center, iOS Today View, or even by asking Siri to do it for you. It’s a great way to quickly access your device in a time of need and doesn’t drain your battery when it’s not needed.
If you’re not a fan of the flashlight shortcut that’s built into your Lock Screen, there are a few different ways to remove it from the iPhone 11. One option is using the Tap to Wake feature on Face ID-enabled devices.
Another method is to disable the flashlight shortcut altogether by going to Settings > General. You’ll need to enable “Tap to Wake” and then toggle off the flashlight shortcut.
A third method is to change the flashlight shortcut in your Shortcuts. You can do this by creating a new Shortcut that will ask you if you want to turn the flashlight on or off.
3. Siri
If you’ve ever found yourself in a dark situation, turning on your iPhone’s flashlight can help you navigate through the scene. Apple has a number of ways to do this on iOS 11, including from the lock screen, Control Center, and even via Siri. In addition, iOS 14 introduced a feature called Back Tap, which lets you use a couple of taps on the back of your device to turn on or off the flashlight.
Siri is the voice-activated virtual assistant native to iOS that lets you ask questions, perform tasks, and more. You can activate Siri on an iPhone 11 by saying “Hey, Siri” or by pressing and holding the Side button on the right-side of the smartphone’s body.
It should be ready to work by default, but if it’s not, you’ll want to check some settings. The most important are the top three options — Press Side Button for Siri, Listen for “Hey Siri,” and Allow Siri When Locked — as these will let you activate the digital assistant manually.
Enabling these options should make Siri on your iPhone 11 respond quickly and effectively. However, it’s also important to note that these options will store information about your requests for a limited amount of time, so they’re worth checking regularly.
When you say “Hey Siri,” your request will be sent to Apple’s servers for processing. This will allow the company to improve the feature and provide users with new features that may be useful in their everyday lives.
4. Home Button
The iPhone’s LED flash on the back, which is usually used for a camera flash, also doubles as a flashlight. It’s a useful feature that can make a big difference in low-light situations, whether you’re reading a book or using your phone to find your way around the dark.
On iOS 11, Apple has added several quick shortcuts to turn on your iPhone’s flashlight. These can be found on the lock screen, in the Control Center, and via Siri.
To turn on your iPhone’s flashlight from the lock screen, simply press and hold on the button. This will bring up a new menu where you can select a brightness level for the light.
You can also adjust the brightness of your flashlight from the Control Center, but this isn’t as fast or as convenient as turning on it from the lock screen.
If your iPhone’s Home button isn’t working, you can try to “recalibrate” it by launching any app that comes pre-installed on the device. This should fix any physical Home buttons that aren’t working on older models, and touch-based Home buttons on the iPhone 7 up to the iPhone SE.
