By default, iOS keyboard makes a clicking noise whenever you press a key. It can be annoying, especially in quiet rooms or when you’re trying to type a text message while someone else is nearby.
Fortunately, it’s easy to turn off keyboard sound on iPhone and iPad. All you need is a few simple settings.
Mute button
The mute button on an iPhone is designed to help you control the volume level of your device. You can use it to mute sound profiles, lower or raise the volume of your phone’s audio output, and even set the device to silent mode when screen mirroring.
The switch is on the right side of your iPhone, above the volume buttons. You can also access it through the Control Center on your device’s home screen.
You can use the mute button to turn off all sounds on your phone, including keyboard sound. However, you need to be aware that this will also mute all ringers and alerts on your device, which can get annoying if you’re trying to work or relax.
If you’re looking for an easier way to mute your iPhone, try using the mute slider in the Settings app. You can find it in the Sounds & Haptics section of Settings.
Alternatively, you can use the iPhone’s Back Tap feature to mute all sounds on your device. Apple currently supports two Back Tap gestures: Double-Tap and Triple-Tap, which you can enable by tapping the white dot in the top-right corner of your screen.
This method works well when the mute button on your iPhone is malfunctioning and you can’t toggle the mute profile. In most cases, it’s a case of dirt and grime getting trapped in the switch, which can be removed with a good cleaning solution.
Volume button
One of the easiest ways to stop the sound of keyboard clicks on an iPhone is to use the volume button. It works on all models of iPhone, but it’s a particularly effective solution for iPads because they have a built-in speaker.
In addition to the volume buttons, your iPhone also has a Mute switch which mutes all audio, including music, game audio and ringtone alerts. This means that you’ll still hear your iPhone’s speakers when typing or using other apps, but you won’t be able to hear anything else.
To mute the sound, press and hold the volume button, which is located on the left-hand side of the screen. Then slide it to the bottom. The Mute slider will appear, and you can then select which sounds to mut or unmute.
If the sound doesn’t go away, you can try pressing the volume button at different points with varying degrees of pressure to see if it will work. If it doesn’t, there may be a hardware problem, and you’ll have to get the iPhone fixed by an Apple service center.
Another common way to solve this issue is to perform a hard reset. This will reset your device, and it’s the best way to fix a problem like this if it’s caused by a software glitch or error.
This can be performed by pressing the volume up and down buttons on your iPhone, then holding them down until your phone’s screen goes black and the Apple logo appears. This is a good option if you’re running an older iPhone model and the buttons aren’t working as expected, or if you just want to ensure that everything on your device is working properly before you upgrade.
The volume button on your iPhone is essential for things like changing the volume level, taking screenshots and performing other actions. If it stops working, you’ll find that your ability to do these things is seriously hindered.
Keyboard feedback
If you’re an iPhone owner who’s not too fond of the vibration you feel when you tap a key on the keyboard, you can turn off that sound in iOS 16. The option is found within the Sounds & Haptics section of the Settings app.
It’s one of the little-known new features of iOS 16, which is full of new things to do with your phone. Some of the more interesting changes include changing the notification sounds, unlocking your iPhone with a tap and more.
Luckily, this feature is also easy to turn off if you find it’s not something that’s worth the extra battery life. That’s because Apple has noted in the support document that turning on haptic feedback reduces your iPhone’s battery life faster than other features.
That’s why it’s important to be aware of the effects that haptic feedback may have on your iPhone’s battery, as well as the ways you can turn it off should it become an issue for you.
The haptic feedback that you’ll find in iOS 16 is powered by the company’s Taptic Engine, which has been around since the iPhone 7. It’s used to power 3D Touch actions like previewing emails or moving the cursor.
Keyboard clicks
There are certain times when you might not want to be distracted by the clicks that are made on the iPhone or iPad keyboard, such as in a library, classroom, or meeting. Thankfully, you can easily turn off keyboard sound on your iOS device so that you can type in silence.
You can quickly mute your iPhone’s keyboard noises by using the mute switch on the side of your device. It’s located on the left-hand side of your device above the volume controls. Pull the mute button forward to turn off your device’s keyboard sounds, or push it backwards to turn it on again.
Another method that you can use to mute your keyboard clicks is to set your device’s ringtone to silent. This will disable your keyboard clicks and the camera shutter sound. However, it also disables other sound output from your iPhone, including music and ringtone alerts.
If you don’t like to use the mute button, or you simply don’t have it available, you can also change the keyboard clicks settings on your iOS device. You can do this by launching the Settings app and scrolling down to the Sounds & Haptics section.
